Egypt's CoS Deemed Islamist Sympathizer
WASHINGTON [MENL] -- Egypt's new military chief has asserted that Islam
marked a key factor in democracy in the Middle East.
Egyptian Chief of Staff Gen. Sidki Sobhi submitted a thesis that
reflected a commitment to Islam as a force for social change. In a thesis
for the U.S. War College, the 56-year-old Sobhi also called on the United
States to end its relationship with Israel and withdraw from the Middle
East.
