U.S., Jordan Block MANPADS To Rebels
ABU DHABI [MENL] -- The United States and Jordan have blocked plans by Gulf
Arab states to equip Syrian rebels with surface-to-air missiles.
Gulf sources said Amman and Washington have urged Gulf Cooperation
Council states to limit their military assistance to Sunni rebels in Syria
to light weapons. They said Jordan and the United States warned that the
transfer of large amounts of man-portable air defense systems to Sunni
rebels could easily wind up with Al Qaida squads in the Levant.
