U.S. Places PKK-Iran On Terror List
WASHINGTON -- The United States has deemed the Kurdish rebel movement in
Iran a terrorist group.
The U.S. Treasury Department has imposed sanctions on the Iranian arm of
the Kurdish Workers Party. Treasury, in a move meant to bolster Turkey's war
against the PKK, said the Iranian-based group, known as the Free Life Party
of Kurdistan, or PJAK, would not be allowed to conduct business in the
United States.
"We are exposing PJAK's terrorist ties to the PKK and supporting
Turkey's efforts to protect its citizens from attack," Treasury
Undersecretary Stuart Levey said.
