ABU DHABI [MENL] -- The Gulf Cooperation Council has been concerned over the
prospect that the millions of Asian laborers could turn hostile against
their host countries.
Officials said GCC states have been tracking efforts to exploit the poor
wages and living conditions among millions of laborers from South Asia. They
said the biggest threat was faced by Bahrain and Kuwait, which battled
rioters in 2008.
"We are seeing a migration of hostile elements into some GCC countries,"
an official said. "This could become extremely dangerous over the next few
years."
