Syrian Revolt Could Reach Key Stage
WASHINGTON [MENL] -- The nearly 20-month-old Sunni revolt in Syria could be
approaching a victory over President Bashar Assad, a report said.
The Washington Institute for Near East Policy said the Assad regime was
on the defensive or retreat in key areas of Syria and could collapse in the
coming weeks. The institute, in a report by a former U.S. military
intelligence officer, asserted that the regime was forced to use militias in
an effort to compensate for a declining Syrian Army.
