Israeli Firm Threatened Over Supplies To Gaza
WASHINGTON [MENL] -- A major Israeli company has been threatened with a
lawsuit over its fuel supplies to the Gaza Strip.
In what could result in international repercussions, U.S. attorney
Robert Tolchin and his Israeli counterpart, Nitsana Darshan-Leitner have
demanded that Israel's Dor Alon Energy stop supplying fuel to the
Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip. The attorneys warned that Dor Alon, which
transfers 800,000 liters of gasoline per week to Gaza, would be sued in the
United States for supporting what they termed a terrorist regime, a
violation of
American law. Hamas has been deemed a terrorist group by the European Union
and the United States.
"Dor Alon knows that supplying fuel to Hamas is an offense under the
Israeli and American law and that the fuel it supplies serves the Hamas
terrorist infrastructure -- yet still chooses to ignore the ramifications of
its actions," Ms. Darshan-Leitner, director of the Israel Law Center, said.
The two attorneys said they represent victims of Palestinian missile
strikes from the Gaza Strip. They said Dor Alon, the only fuel supplier to
the Gaza Strip, would face both criminal and civil prosecution.
