Syria Develops Modern SAM Network

WASHINGTON [MENL] -- The United States has determined that Syria developed
an advanced air defense network that was one of the most effective in the
Middle East.
Officials said the Defense Department has assessed that Syria was
operating an air defense network superior to any other regional state with
the exception of Egypt and Israel. They said the assessment concluded that
the regime of President Bashar Assad acquired and deployed the most advanced
Russian-origin assets to detect and intercept air threats.
