New Assad Militia Plays Big Role
WASHINGTON [MENL] -- President Bashar Assad's new militia network has been
playing a significant role in the war against Sunni rebels, a report said.
The Jamestown Foundation asserted that the so-called Popular Committees
were succeeding in protecting Syrian villages and towns from rebel
infiltration. They said the committees, armed with light weapons, have also
supported Syrian Army operations in central and southern Syria.
