Israel Envisions New Military
TEL AVIV [MENL] -- Israel, forced to make massive budget cuts, envisions a
streamlined military based on unmanned and standoff capabilities.
Officials said the military would be transformed into a smaller and more
capable force by 2017. They said the nearly $3 billion that would be cut
from the Defense Ministry budget would force the military to shed aging
combat platforms, merge combat and support units and focus on intelligence
and long-range firepower.
