ANKARA [MENL] -- Turkey, withdrawing its support to the Sunni revolt, has
been concerned over the gains made by Kurdish militias near the border with
Syria.
Officials said the Turkish military and intelligence community have been
closely monitoring operations by the Democratic Union Party and other
Kurdish militias in northern Syria. They said these militias were believed
to be trained and supported by the Kurdish Workers Party, or PKK, which
waged a more than 20-year campaign against Ankara.
