Egyptian General Heads CI Mission

WASHINGTON [MENL] -- Egypt has assigned an army general to head the
counter-insurgency mission in the Sinai Peninsula, a report said.
The Washington Institute for Near East Policy identified Gen. Ahmed
Wasfi as the chief of the CI campaign in Sinai in the spring of 2013. The
institute said Wasfi, the commander of the Second Army who escaped an
assassination attempt, has deployed combat troops, main battle tanks and
attack helicopters in the war against Al Qaida-aligned fighters in the
peninsula.
