CAIRO [MENL] -- The United States has been pressing Libya for permission to
conduct unmanned aerial vehicle strikes on Al Qaida targets.
Officials said the administration of President Barack Obama was sending
envoys to Tripoli to win Libyan permission to stage a UAV campaign similar
to that in Yemen. They said envoys from the U.S. Defense Department and
State Department warned that American military cooperation with Tripoli
would depend on the elimination of the Al Qaida presence in the North
African state.
