U.S. Cites Sinai Insurgent
WASHINGTON [MENL] -- The United States has identified an Egyptian as a
leading Al Qaida commander in North Africa and the Sinai Peninsula.
The State Department has designated Mohammed Jamal, linked to the Al
Qaida leadership, a "global terrorist." The department said Jamal, head of a
network that operated in Egypt and Libya, trained with Al Qaida in
Afghanistan and headed the operational wing of Egypt's Islamic Jihad in the
1990s.
