Iran Challenged In Continuing Aid To Hamas
TEL AVIV [MENL] -- Iran could encounter difficulty in maintaining military
aid to the Hamas regime in the Gaza Strip, a report said.
A report by the Israeli intelligence community asserted that Iran, in
wake of the Israel war, would face greater difficulty in restoring Hamas's
military capabilities than in Teheran's rearmament of Hizbullah in 2006. The
report by the state-financed Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center
pointed out that Iran does not have direct access to the Gaza Strip as it
does to Lebanon.
"As opposed to Lebanon, however, Iran will face greater difficulties in
supporting Hamas in the Gaza Strip once the dust settles," the report,
titled "Iranian Support of Hamas," said. "That is because Iran has no direct
access to the Gazan border -- as opposed to good access to Lebanon though
its wide-open border with Syria -- and an arrangement may be reached at the
end of the fighting that will lead to closer supervision along the
Egypt-Gaza border."
