Israel Sells UAVs To Azerbaijan
MOSCOW [MENL] -- A leading Israeli defense firm has been awarded a project
to supply unmanned aerial vehicles to Azerbaijan.
Industry sources said Azerbaijan has awarded Israel's Elbit Systems an
order for 10 Hermes-450 UAVs. The sources said the Azeri Defense Ministry
plans to deploy the Hermes-450s in the Azeri conflict against Armenia.
"Choosing equipment, we highlight its 'invisibility' for the enemy's
anti-aircraft defense," a ministry official said.
The Hermes-450 has been selected by the British Army as the basis of its
Watchkeeper program. The multi-role Hermes-450, capable of carrying a
150-kilogram payload, was designed as a long-endurance UAV for intelligence,
surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance missions.
